I first caught wind of this from SammyGuru, and after double‑checking the details, it’s clear Samsung isn’t wasting any time. Even though One UI 8 has only just started rolling out globally — including to the Galaxy S25 series — the company is already deep into One UI 8.5 development.

Early test builds have popped up on Samsung’s servers, and thanks to a port by developer devcore, we’ve seen it running on a Galaxy S21+ (originally from a Galaxy S25 Ultra build). The Settings app is getting a noticeable refresh: more compact menu items without subtitles, a relocated search bar at the bottom, subtle gradient fades, and drop shadows that give the UI more depth. Inside menus, the back button now floats with a shadow — very iOS‑like — and containers have a more elevated look.
But it’s not just about looks. Built on Android 16, One UI 8.5 is expected to bring smarter Galaxy AI features like improved voice commands, context‑aware suggestions, and possibly support for multiple assistants beyond Google Gemini. Add in Material You theming, animated themes, new widgets, smoother animations, and app enhancements, and it’s shaping up to be a solid upgrade.
The update is set to debut with the Galaxy S26 series in January 2026, before rolling out to other eligible devices. No beta program is expected for this “.5” release — so for now, we’ll just have to enjoy One UI 8 while waiting for the next chapter.
